SENIORS
NEW LIFE, is for those born earlier.
As a group of retired people we have discovered that retirement provides a new phase in life, new routine, new opportunities, the chance to do things and go places we previously had not achieved before as well as meeting and making new friends.....in fact it really is a - New Life.
So if you are retired why not join us.
We meet to have our lunch together in the upstairs Rear Hall twice a month on the first and third Tuesday at 12.30 for 12.45, soup and tea is available for a small charge, just bring your own sandwiches. Following lunch we have a interesting and varied program finishing with the usual cuppa at about 3 o.clock. During the year we have Coach outings, meals out and a bi-annual holiday.
Contact the Church Office for more information or just turn up, see you there.

In Sept 2009 we returned again for our holiday to Thornleigh Christian Hotel in Grange over Sands Cumbria, Desmond and Jenny Saunders were our guests, Desmond shared the Bible ministry together with Trevor King. It was another very successful holiday organized by Trevor & Jane King and David & Pat Wisdish. We already have our next holiday booked for the 9th to 16th Sept 2011 at the Park Hotel Paignton Devon.
On the first Tuesday the group works to support missionary organisations. We sometimes also enjoy games such as Carpet Bowls. On the third Tuesday a visiting speaker is usually invited.
During the summer months the group usually meets away from the church building at various venues, sometimes with the opportunity for swimming. There are regular coach outings (recent highlights have been the Severn Valley Steam Railway and a Tea Cruise on the River Trent).

Tim Dixon arranging for members of our Senior Fellowship to go on a tour of inspection of the Dixon's camp site.

KNIGHTON HOMES
Knighton Homes is a community of 25 bungalows and flats, completed in 2004. It was set up to provide supported retirement accommodation in a Christian environment for older members of the KEFC family – who now make up the majority of the residents, supplemented by others who are linked to various local churches.

The development is situated round the corner from KEFC, at Muston Gardens, off Welford Road. Knighton Evangelical Care Ltd manage the project and retain ownership of the land, with two of the Company Directors also being Trustees of the Church’s interest. Some properties are rented, while others are purchased by the residents on long-term leases. All residents also pay a service charge to employ a part-time Warden, and for the maintenance of landscaped areas and other communal services which are contracted from a specialist provider.

There is a real sense of belonging, with regular social activities which include films and talks in “the Den”, shopping trips and their own monthly magazine. Many residents are still actively involved in the wider community. For others, assistance including help with transport is provided by the “Friends of Knighton Homes”, a group of volunteers from within the church. A guest room is also available for overnight visitors.
Kathryn Briggs shares her views on life at Knighton Homes;
"I have been living at Knighton Homes for just over 3 years.
I actually wondered if I was too young to move into a Warden-assisted facility! I was still working at the time – but God gave me a particular promise and I knew it was the right thing to make the move.It’s great to have such good neighbours – folk who are kind, thoughtful and friendly. It’s also an advantage to live amongst people from different church families. While there is a strong sense of community at Muston Gardens, we are all independent and, since most of us have good friends living off-site, this keeps a balance and avoids a cloistered atmosphere.One of the great bonuses is to have Jenny as our Warden in the office on Weekday mornings. She is unfailingly pleasant, caring, helpful, is blessed with a great sense of humour and, last but not least, is a keen rugby fan!The Knighton Homes committee works very hard for us – giving up time and energy, as do several of the residents, who organize various activities ranging from Bible studies to pub lunches and fish and chip suppers, for any who are interested.I thank God for bringing me here and showing His love and faithfulness to me in so many ways."
There is a waiting list to buy or to rent properties as they become available, and a minimum age of 55 applies.
If you are interested in adding your name to the list, please speak to David Wisdish (Tel. 0116 2414136)
